Learn the process of creating a copperfoil lamp (often know as Tiffany style) from pattern and glass selection, to glass cutting, breaking, and shaping, working with copperfoil, and soldering, and adding patina to pieces.

Participants will be shown all of the relevant skills including how to cut and shape glass pieces using glass cutters and glass grinders.

Session times:

The class will run in two sessions to allow for the whole process to be explored;

Session 1: 10:30am- 3:30pm Saturday (includes break for lunch)

Session 2: 10:30am - until project is finished on Sunday (some participants may finish their projects earlier)

All sessions of the class will be held at the Leadlight By Ettore studios; Studio 1, The Old Auction House, 52-56 Mollison St, Kyneton, VIC, 3444.

The workshop costs include all materials required and all tools will be provided in the studio for use by participants.

This class is run in Studio 1, Leadlight By Ettore. Leadlight By Ettore is a multi-generational family glass arts business who specialize in leadlight windows, fused and slumped glass, and mosaics. The studio teaches terms and ad hoc glass arts classes as well as completing new commissions and repairs.

Please be aware that this workshop will place participants in contact with a small amount of lead in the soldering process, participants who are pregnant or have other medical concerns are recommended to seek medical advice.

What you will learn
  • Learn the entire process of creating copperfoil lamps
  • Gain skills in cutting, breaking, and shaping glass using a variety of different tools
  • Learn how to pick an appropriate height lamp base for your lamp
What you will get
  • Each participant will complete a lampshade and base to take home
  • Get a solid basis in copperfoiling to allow you to create on your own

What to bring
  • Lunch can be brought from home, or there are many great cafes within Kyneton all within walking distance of the studio. Tea and coffee is available in the kitchen facilities within the precinct – no food is allowed in the glass studio.
What to wear

All participants must wear closed toed shoes, and long hair must be tied back. Loose flowing clothing is not recommended in the studio and participants are reminded that while aprons are provided it is recommend to wear clothing they do not mind getting dirty.

Appropriate for

Class is suitable for ages 15+. No experience necessary.

Cancelation & Refund Policy

Cancellation of session booking within 7 days of the workshop start date will forfeit the full workshop fee. If cancelled by the participant between 7 - 21 days before the workshop the 50% deposit will not be refunded. At management discretion participants may be transfered to another workshop or session.

If a workshop is canceled by The Old Auction House due to insufficient enrollments, participants will be given the choice between a full refund or can transfer to a replacement workshop . Notification of cancellation of workshops will be at least 2 days before the workshop starts.

Please ensure that all dress code guidelines are carefully followed as management will not allow incorrectly attired particapants to have access to the studio spaces at The Old Auction House which may result in any fees being forfeited. Please note that even when visiting the studios these dress codes will still apply.
